Petition by Sybil Simpson on behalf of the Save Your Regional Parks campaign, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to provide greater protection for the National and Regional Parks of Scotland from industrialisation, including wind farms and their associated quarries, roads, cable trenches and sub-stations.

We would like to thank the 1,221 e-mail and 2,533 written signatures in support of the petition, as well as the following community councils:– Beith, Bridge of Weir, Howwood, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay, Kilbarchan, Kilbirnie and Glengarnock, Kilmalcolm, Largs, Lochwinnoch and Skelmorlie. There were many signatories from overseas and a letter from North Ayrshire Council stating that they are holding 2,883 signatures upholding "Wind farms and power stations should not be built in Clyde Muirsheil Regional Park (CMRP) or any other designated Park." In total we have had support from 6,637 individuals and organisations.

At its meeting on 3 December, the Petitions Committee agreed to seek responses to the issues raised in our petition from Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Renewables, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park Authority, Cairngorms National Park Authority, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Planning Aid Scotland. These organisations have been asked to respond by 8 January 2008 and, when their responses have been received, the Clerk to the Petitions Committee will forward them to LWFAG for our comments before the petition is brought back before the Committee.

Sybil Simpson has drawn the Clerk to the Petitions Committee’s attention to the fact that the Committee had omitted both Lomond Hill and Pentlands Regional Parks from the list of those to be contacted and that this should be done as they were specifically included in the petition.
